Mathias Jensen was born in Denmark on 1 January 1996. Jensen who started playing football at his very young ages at Hvidebæk then played at Kalundborg. When he was 15 years old, he was transferred by Nordsjaelland young team and took his first step to professional football at this club.
Jensen had a place at Denmark U19 national team by attracting people with his form in Nordsjaelland young teams. Firstly he experienced youth national team level football at qualifying round of 2015 European U19 Championship and played in 3 matches in which he was a first eleven player. He played his first professional level match on 20.09.2015 in an away game (Midtjylland) by being substituted with Emiliano Marcondes who is actual teammate of him. In his first season, he played 103 minutes in 5 matches and scored 1 goal.
Jensen who began to take on Nordsjaelland midfield’s back in 2016/2017 season generally played as defensive midfielder and his main duties was playmaking and providing pass coordination of the team. He shows his passing ability by having more than %80 accuracy. He played 22 matches (17 of them was in the first 11), scored 2 goals and had 4 yellow cards.
In the actual season (2017/2018), Jensen who started in the first 11 in first 7 matches, produced 3 goals and 3 assists. He is one of the most important parts of Nordsjaelland that started very well to the league with 6 wins in 7 matches. He was the captain of the team in the last 2 matches.
Jensen plays as defensive midfielder and sometimes central midfielder at Nordsjaelland which uses 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 systems. Jensen who has not been called for Denmark National Team played at youth categories: 1 match in U18, 8 matches in U19, 6 matches in U20 and 3 matches in U21. It seems absolute that he will be called for senior national team in the coming years.
Strengths (Passing, Positioning, Shooting)
The most attractive attributes of Mathias Jensen are his activity in pass traffic of the team and his long passes. 65 pass attempt, 4 key passes and %83 pass accuracy per match show that Jensen plays an important role in success of Nordsjaelland. Only the players can be named as special have the skill helping both trying high number of key passes and having a high accuracy of passes.
Although he has a defensive structure based on zone marking with his positioning at center of midfield, he also can win challenges. He cannot be in goal attempts too much because of his main duty in the play but he can find goal with his long shoots.
Weaknesses (Stamina, Dribbling, Aerial Duels, Turnovers)
The first aspects that he needs to improve are toughness in challenges, stealing and disturbing the rivals which are all necessity of his position. He has %48 success in 18 challenges and %47 success in 7 tackles per match. He needs to increase contribution to defensive side of the game by improving these numbers and rates. Dribbling attempt is also a weak side of Jensen. He needs to increase mobility in the game by moving to spaces. HE has 2.4 dribbling per match which is so low. Jensen who has 2.3 aerial ball challenges per match becomes successful in %40 of them. Because of his height and physical structure, he cannot challenge in aerial balls too much so he needs to improve his jumping ability.
He has 7 turnovers per match and it is a negative point for him playing at center of midfield. This number would be a problem for him at higher levels.
Similar Players: Oscar Scarione, Andre Castro
Mathias Jensen is a similar player in terms of many attributes with Oscar Scarione playing for Göztepe. Passing ability, shoots, play making skills can be shown as similar sides of these two players.
In addition to this, his passing station and connection between attack and defense duties remind Andre Castro playing for Göztepe as well. Jensen has a potential that can carry him to have much better levels than both Scarione and Andre Castro.
