Ferdi Kadıoğlu was born in Netherland’s city of Arnheim. He started playing football in the team ESA Arnheim and moved to NEC Nijmegen in 2008. He trained in youth team of NEC Nijmegen until 2016 but nobody was expecting him to be that efficient in the first team due to his physical weakness. However he proved all of these people wrong with his performance in 2016-2017 season.
This season he started playing in the first team, generally coming from the bench, but he easily demonstrated his skills in these minutes that it did not took so long to become a starting player. Until now, he has played 603 minutes in 13 games in Eredivisie and scored 2 goals with 3 assists aside. By that way Ferdi became the 4th youngest player in Eredivisie history to score 2 goals.
Ferdi’s choice about National Team seems to be Netherlands so far. He scored 2 goals in 17 games with the youth team of Netherlands. He played with U17 team of Netherladns in 2016 U17 European Championship which eliminated in semi-final and is still a member of Netherlands’s U18 team.
Ferdi can play efficiently in different positions on the pitch that makes him suitable for different kinds of formations. He plays as a central or attacking midfielder in 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 formations but he can also be used as a winger. When it comes to 4-4-2 formation, the best place for him is the right side of the midfield. His ability to take the ball from the defender and play as a playmaker, dribbling skills, high pass percentage that relaxes his team when they are under pressure makes right side of the midfield suitable for him. He also minimizes his physical weakness in this position.
Strengths (Dribbling, Strutting, Crossing, Being Smart on the Pitch, Key Passing, Playmaking, Counter-Attacking, Teamwork, Taking Responsibility on the Pitch)
Ferdi has several strengths that makes him different but the most important thing is nobody can guess his next move when he has the ball. He is talented enough to make audience excited everytime he touches the ball. He can use his dribbling skills to carry the ball forward, get past his opponent quickly with strutting skills, pass the ball to the danger area to create chances for his team or hide the ball and give short passes to gain time for his teammates to be crowded on final third.
His dribbling skills makes him carry the ball to the final third quickly especially when opponents get caught with few defenders. This season he has created many chances by carrying the ball through flanks and playing it into the box. His strutting skills are also helping him that he can easily do spectacular moves with the ball to get past his opponent.
He seems so smart on the pitch that he can decide the best option for his team quickly and applies it successfully. Although he is only 17, he knows what to do on the pitch like experienced players.
He shows his crossing skills in both set pieces and while dribbling. He uses corner kicks when he is on the pitch and this attribute of him creates chances for his team but it is hard to say that his teammates uses these chances successfully.
As we mentioned before, he seems like an experienced player and takes responsibility on the pitch when it is required. He always try to get out of the pressure and wants to use the ball in decisive moments. This characteristic of him is really important to become an important player in the future.
Weaknesses (Physical Attributes, Shooting, Helping Team When Defending, Environment Control)
First of all his physical attributes are not enough to play in the highest level of football. His performance starts decreasing after 60th minute when he plays in starting eleven. Due to his weakness, he can not stay strong in tackles. Sometimes he can compensate this weakness with his speed but it is not enough that he must improve this attribute of him.
Secondly he needs to increase his finding the target ratio when shooting with his number of shots per game. This is important for him to add more goal statistics to his offensive skills. In this season he has 0.5 shots per game and has a success ratio of 50% which is too low for a player like Ferdi.
Thirdly he lacks environment control when he has the ball that leads him to lose it because of not seeing the opponent coming from behind. Besides, sometimes he does not look around him to locate the places of the opponent and lose the ball easily when dribbling. We belive that he will improve this weakness as he gets more experienced.
His weakness in aerial duels creates some problems when he plays as a central midfielder. He has 2,5 aerial duels per game and has only 25% success ratio. When he plays as attacking midfielder or winger, this weakness does not become a big problem but in center midfield, opponents create great supremacy on him.
Lastly, he lacks helping the right-back plays behind him when defending. If he increases his physical attributes, he will have the energy to help the defence for 90 minutes while being efficient in attacking.
Similar Players: Sebastian Giovinco, Emre Çolak
His dribbling, strutting and key passing skills reminds us of Sebastian Giovnico. His playmaking, crossing and roles on the pitch are similar to Emre Çolak. Especially his dribbles through midfield, leading his the team in attacking and assists shows great similarities with Emre Çolak’s style of play. But of course when we think about Ferdi’s other skills, he has more potential than Emre.
