Ezgjan Alioski was born on February 12, 1992 in Prilep, Macedonia. He started football at the BSC Young Boys, one of Switzerland’s most important teams, in 2005. After playing at the young categories of the team, he stepped into professional career with Young Boys II in 2010. He played here for 2.5 seasons and performed 4 goals and 4 assists in 57 games. After that, he went on loan to 2nd Division Team Schaffhausen and played 10 games with his new team.
At the beginning of the 13-14 season, Alioski signed a contract with Schaffhausen. He played 2,5 seasons with Schaffhausen after that contract and played in 82 games; scored 4 goals and made 7 assists. On January 15, 2016, Alioski was loaned to FC Lugano, where he played 18 games and scored 3 goals & 2assists.
On 12 July 2016, Alioski had a deal with Swiss Super League team, FC Lugano. From that date Alioski has played in 25 games, has achieved a very successful performance with 11 goals & 7 assists and succeeded in attracting all the attention.
The Macedonian player had previously played in the national team’s U17, U19 and U21teams. After that, On October 11, 2013 he made his first appearance with national team in Macedonia-Wales match. So far, he had played 10 games including World Cup Qualifiers and European Championship Qualifiers.
If we look at Alioski’s career background, we can say that there is an interesting situation. Alioski spent the first years of his career as a left-back and he played in that position until he moved to Lugano on January, 2016. But when he began to play for Lugano, manager Zdenek Zeman asked Alioski to play as a right winger. He performed extremely well in his new position and continued to play as a right winger.
Up until now, Alioski has mostly played as left-back or right winger in 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 4-2-3-1 formations. We can say that he has been playing as a right winger for 1,5 seasons.
Strengths (Technique, Shooting, Dribbling, Counter-attacks, Vision, Defensive & Offensive Contribution)
First of all, we have to divide the career of Ezgjan Alioski into two; before 2016 and after 2016. It is possible to describe Alioski before 2016 as an “ordinary” left-back. But after January 2016, when he came to the Lugano, he became a right winger with manager Zdenek Zeman’s “golden touch” and he has performed spectacular so far in his new position. Thus, we can say that Alioski’s statistical data has been changing with his new position and becoming better day by day.
We have to say that Alioski is a special player. His one of his most important features is the ball technique. It is a name that is able to use both legs effectively. He tries good key passes (2,3 per game and 50% accuracy), does not have a problem about ball control and using almost all the set pieces of his team. We can also say that he has very effective shots. Throughout his career, Alioski scored many goals with a shot from outside the penalty area. We can also see that he tries 3.2 shots per game with 40% accuracy.
Besides these, the Macedonian winger has a serious dribbling ability. The fact that he’s fast with the ball and the ability to use both legs are making his dribblings more and more effective. When he is with the ball, he can dribble both to the last line and to the penalty area. Alioski has a 50% success rate with 4.7 dribbling per game and this stat is increasing.
Another important feature of Alioski is his success of counter-attacks. Especially when Lugano wins the ball while defending, his teammates are passing immediately to Alioski and he is organising the counterattack. With effective dribblings, he is moving the ball to the 3rd zone and taking action like key pass, shooting or crosses. Counter-attack management and responsibilities in positional attacks are results of his high vision.
Another advantage of Alioski is that he gives his team both defensive and offensive contribution. We mentioned that Alioski spent a large part of his career as a left-back. For this reason, we can say that the he is also familiar with defensive actions and he contributes to the defense as much as possible. He is a football player who generally comes back to defense and helps his teammates. It is also possible to say that he is also successful in attempts to tackles (3,7 tackles per game, %55 success).
Weaknesses (Physique, Crosses, Continuity, Abroad Experience)
In addition to the strong aspects of Ezgjan Alioski, it is necessary to mention some of his weaknesses. First of all, the 1.72 size of the footballer is an important handicap for him. First of all, the footballer’s size is 1.72 and this is an important physical handicap for him. As a matter of fact, he can win 39% of his 21 challenges per game. It’s not a bad stat at all, but the bigger problem is that he can only win 1.5 (33%) of his 4.7 air challenges.
Another important drawback of the footballer is the accuracy rate of his crosses. Alioski can deliver his teammates only 22% of his 2.4 crosses per game. So, he has to make his crosses more accurate.
If we talk about Alioski’s continuity problem, we can see that his effectiveness can decrease in some parts of the game. However, it is also possible to perceive this as “active resting” or as “to act according to how the game is going”. Because the decrease of the player’s effectiveness is not take very long and after that it becomes possible to see Alioski again at the focal point of the match.
Macedonian footballer plays both outside of his country and has national team experience; so we can not say that there is no international and international experience. But the question is how he will perform when he moves to another country, because he played only in Swiss leagues throughout his career.
Alioski has 33 yellow, 6 red cards in his career. However, the majority of these cards was shown from periods when he was playing as a left-back. Since starting to play as a right winger, we have to say that he has not a card problem.
Similar Players: Ricardo Quaresma, Xherdan Shaqiri
Alioski’s dribbling style, physical structure, and ball technique show similarities to Ricardo Quaresma, who has been playing successfully in our league so far. He also reminds us Swiss player Xherdan Shaqiri in terms of his quickness, strong left food and ability to create dangerous shots, especially he dribbles through the penalty area.
TrScouts Note: The player has been transferred to Leeds United on the date of 13.07.2017 at € 2,500,000.
