Ocansey was born in the city of Tema in Ghana and when he was 13, he joined to Aspire Football Dreams program of Aspire Academy in Africa in which more than 20.000 children at the age of 13 are tested by Academy coaches to become professional soccer players. This program was fairly hard that only 3 out of 20.000 children from each country had the chance to becoma a professional football player at the end of the program but Ocansey had a great achievement and signed his first professional contract in 2015 with Belgian club KAS Eupen which is formed by Aspire Academy directly. In 2015-2016 season, Ocansey and his club KAS Eupen was competing in the second division of Belgian League and they finished as runner-ups which means they will take a part in first division in the following season. That season was also included Ocansey’s debut as a proffesional player on 13.10.2015. He was not efficient in his debut but he played in every game until the end of the season except one and he scored 3 goals in 23 games in his first season. Although they finished as runner-ups, champions White Star Brussel had an economic crisis which led them to lose their right to promote to first division. So that KAS Eupen had the chance to promote directly to the first division without playing play-off games. In 2016-2017 season so far, KAS Eupen has 2 wins in 10 games and they are at the bottom of the table right now. Ocansey by the way has scored 3 goals in 7 games and assisted 1.
KAS Eupen has achieved to promote to first division last season with 4-4-2 formation and they continue the same tactic today. In this formation Ocansey generally used on the right side of the midfield but sometimes coach gives him a role on left side. He never had chance to wear Ghana National Team shirt in any age categories but if he continues his progress like this, he can become one of the most important players of Ghana.
Strengths (Dribbling, Suitable for Counter-Attacking, Vision, Speed)
His most significant skill is his dribbling ability. His technique and flowing style of play makes him successful in his dribbling attempts. He can use his both feet while he is dribbling the ball so touching the ball with both feet on the right time makes him favored among opponents on one-on-ones. We can look at his great statistic in dribbling to support that he has 10 dribbling attempts in every game and he has a success ratio of 54%. His second most important skill is that he fits perfectly to Counter-Attacking play and he helps his team to get the ball forward quickly. In a team like KAS Eupen which has less possession than their opponents, scoring with counter-attacks become more important and Ocanset is perfectly suitable for this because he can pass the opponent easily and create wide spaces. Although he generally uses dribbling as his style of play, he has 1,9 key passes per game which shows his vision while attacking.
As a winger in 4-4-2 formation he also has a defensive role and he helps his team in defence as expected. He is more like a dribbler and his strongest weapon is his technique but his statistics in tackling are also fascinating. He has 4 tackling attempts per game with a success ratio of 59%. Ocansey is also efficient at long shots which is a real threat for opponents that he scored 2 out of 3 goals this season from outside of the box.
Weaknesses (Crossing, Physical Attributes, Without the Ball Running)
His first notable weakness is his crossing. His style of play mostly requires dribbling into box rather than crossing from the line that he only has 0.79 crosses per games. This weakness makes him predictable for his opponents when he takes the pall on the flanks. We mentioned his tackling skills above but it is impossible to state the same when it comes to duels. His physichal disadvantages makes him lose most of the duels on the pitch that he only wins 42% of them. Improving his strength would help him when it comes to play in better leagues of Europe. His another weakness is that his positioning and runs without the ball in attack. He does great when he has the ball but when his teammates have it, Ocansey struggles to take the right position to get the ball in the danger area. His ability to do spectacular moves with the ball sometimes makes him miss better options but this weakness can be solved as he plays more games and become more experienced.
Similar Players; Ousmane Dembele, Bruma
His physical characteristic, technical ability and dribbling skills remind us of Bruma and Dembele. He dribbles into box with using his acceleration like Bruma, passes his opponent and shoots from distance like Dembele.
